Unbowed Nancy insists he is not worried about the sack but the Parkhead faithful unleash anger following defeat.
The Celtic boss insisted he did not fear the sack, maintaining, “The team is really close to things turning around,” in the wake of sliding worryingly close to being fired with a comprehensive setback against their arch-rivals.
Another Collapse Results in Old Firm Defeat
The Hoops were in front their oldest rivals at half-time but a collapse after the break enabled Rangers to draw level on points with the defending league title holders. The former MLS manager, who was hired from Columbus Crew, has now overseen six setbacks in his last eight fixtures.
“We are together with the board,” insisted the manager.
Questioned about the speculation, Nancy said: “That’s not my focus. I concentrate on finding ways to aid my players to improve on small moments.
Protest On Display
Hundreds of supporters made their feelings clear – towards the hierarchy – by protesting outside the stadium. The hierarchy are thought to be considering to return to the former boss, who enjoyed a successful interim spell before Nancy was hired, if Nancy departs.
“The outcomes [that leads to pressure]. And that’s the situation for the moment. Yet in stating this is the reality, that is not a sign that I am pessimistic. Not at all. The message is the turnaround is near, extremely close to turn things around.”
Nancy’s Persistent Belief
Nancy remains focused on the fact his team play well for a half at a time. For instance, if not for missed chances they could have been better than 1-0 up. “There were positives except the fact that we didn't take a second goal,” he said. “I know that we lost, but I have also to be fair.
“The standard we had at times was exceptionally high. That happened. I wouldn't say that if it was different. That is the reason, in terms of results, I noted it's a repeating pattern. For that reason I believe we are nearly there to getting it right. Right now: details, details, details.”
“I saw a lot of encouraging signs that we did, as was the case today. The issue now comes down to performing for 90 minutes. My message would not be the same. This is why I am a big believer we will manage to turn things around.”
The Rangers Boss Response
The victorious boss was cautious about a title charge in spite of what felt like a landmark win. “Step by step, and we can develop something here,” he said. “The faith in the group is excellent.”
